Design Challenge

The central challenge was making technical, industrial content feel clear and visually engaging without losing its professional authority. CBMM's materials — niobium R&D findings, event messaging, product communication — needed to read as precise and credible rather than decorative.

An additional layer of complexity was format adaptation: the same visual language had to work across WeChat OA long-form layouts, vertical social posts, event posters, large-format backdrops, and print collateral — each with different hierarchy needs, viewing distances, and production constraints.

My Contribution
Visual Direction
Created and refined the campaign key visual for the CBMM × CITIC R&D Annual Meeting, applying a green-to-blue gradient shift to reflect CBMM's updated brand guidelines and communicate innovation and technology.
Information Design
Translated technical reports and product content into structured WeChat OA infographic layouts — establishing visual hierarchy, data flow, and bilingual readability for a mobile-first audience.
System Adaptation
Extended the visual system across WeChat digital invitations, event banners, conference backdrops, and print advertisements — adapting layout, scale, and color treatment for each format.
Iterative Refinement
Worked through multiple rounds of client and internal feedback, coordinated through a project colleague. Revised designs to ensure accuracy of technical information and alignment with client expectations.

Reflection

Working on CBMM clarified something important about B2B visual communication: technical credibility and visual clarity are not in tension — they reinforce each other. The design's job was not to simplify the content, but to give it the structure it deserved.

The iterative feedback process — channeled through a project colleague rather than directly with the client — taught me to read between the lines of brief language, anticipate revision patterns, and build enough flexibility into layouts to absorb changes without breaking the system.

Format Versatility
Adapting a single visual direction across WeChat OA, event posters, large-format print, and digital banners requires understanding each format's hierarchy logic — not just resizing.
Brand Consistency Under Pressure
Maintaining brand alignment through multiple revision rounds, while accommodating content changes, develops a different kind of design discipline than building from scratch.
Technical Content as Design Material
Niobium's industrial specificity pushed me to find visual logic within the content itself — data flow, material properties, process diagrams — rather than imposing an external aesthetic.
