Kinetic Typography

25 seconds. After Effects.

The assignment was to animate a quote. Mine is a Chinese proverb: "The wise adapt themselves to circumstances, as water molds itself to the pitcher."

The type starts in Cormorant Garamond and changes to Futura partway through. The words bend along a path and break up under turbulent noise, so the type does what the proverb says water does.

Animated Personal Mandala

30 seconds. After Effects and Illustrator.

The brief was a personal mandala. I started from a list of words, among them strength, exploration, technology, neon and cityscape, and turned them into shapes.

Each ring is one shape repeated around the centre with the Repeater. Getting several rings to turn at once without the picture going muddy was the hard part.

Paprika: Parade of the Subconscious

42 seconds. After Effects and Illustrator. A class exercise, not made for the film's producers.

An opening title sequence for Satoshi Kon's film Paprika (2006). It is cut to Susumu Hirasawa's music from the film. The collage pieces are bent with the Puppet Pin tool, and the cuts follow the beat.

I generated the faces on the television screens with Sora and the kiss mark with GPT-4o, and used GPT for some of the collage illustrations.
